Is redaction different from drawing a black box?

Yes. A visual black box may only hide content. Redaction regenerates pages and removes the underlying content from the output.

Can redacted PDF content be recovered?

The output removes the original text layer, forms, annotations, and attachments, but you should still review every page after download.
